Connect and Grow

"Large Group" is our main weekly gathering where we join together as a community to connect with each other, encounter God, and celebrate Him. It’s kind of like one, big, crazy family reunion... every week! Large Group is a safe and welcoming environment where you can get away from the craziness of UCSD, connect with friends, or explore who God is. Whether you’ve been a Christian all your life or are just exploring this whole God thing, Large Group is a great place to get introduced to our community and see what we are about. We move around weekly, so make sure to check our website for our location before you come.

What can I expect?

After being greeted at the door by one of our greeters, you will follow the crowd to find a seat. At the start of the night, the worship band will usually open up with some music that focuses on God. This is a time where we reflect on all that God has done for us and express our thanks to Him through song. Whether you want to sing along or just sit and watch, we invite you to participate in whatever way you feel comfortable. After worship you will get a chance to hear a talk on a topic that is relevant to your life as a college student. This message, taken from principles found in the Bible, will help you learn about who God is and give you ideas on a better way to live your life. After the message there is always an opportunity to respond to anything God may be speaking to you through standing up and receiving prayer. Please don’t feel pressured to stand or pray if you don’t want to. Finally, the worship band closes out the night with a song or two.

Who can come?

Anybody! Large group is an open environment where anyone can come, be among friends, and meet with God. Whether you’re Christian or just checking out God, our hope is that you would feel welcome and be free to just be yourself. If you’re visiting alone, make sure to introduce yourself to one of our leaders at the Hot Spot. We would love to meet you!

Ways to Connect

We really really want to meet you! It can be difficult to meet people when you’re in a large crowd, so here are two suggestions for how to get connected at Large Group:

Find the Hot Spot

When you visit make sure you check out the Hot Spot typically found right outside the doors of large group. Here you will be able to meet one of our leaders and find tons of helpful information about our fellowship. Browse our numerous small groups and ministry opportunities or meet a new friend who can help you navigate our ministry. If you want to get connected, the Hot Spot is a good place to start.

Look out for Badges

Make sure to say hello to anyone walking around large group with InterVarsity name badges around their neck. They are InterVarsity leaders and would love to welcome you and get you connected! They are available to hang out, pray with you, and answer any questions you may have. They can also connect you with a small group, a specific ministry, or introduce you to one of our full time staff.
